LOGO HISTORY
Historically speaking, Freelancer only had one logo design since it first went live on February 7, 2004. The iconic lilac and grey logo was reminiscent of the height of cold war design, with visual homage to the 1972 Munich Olympics.
For four years and a half, the now iconic GETaFREELANCER.com logo (with the ‘GET’ shown in an outlined form and the ‘T’ represented by an outlined person) have been the mainstream symbol of the long enduring, relationship between project owners and service providers.
Constructed from 4 different fonts and leftover paint from the USS Midway, the GETaFREELANCER.com logo was at its time the pinnacle of global brand design.
On the 1st August 2009, we launched a logo competition to bring us out of the ice age with a new, vibrant, web 3.0 logo. However unexpectedly we managed to secure the domain name FREELANCER.COM midway through the competition. As a result, we have extended the competition and jackpotted the prizes to over US$20,000 for the development of a new logo for our new name, Freelancer!
PEOPLES CHOICE AWARD
On Monday the 23rd of November, the top finalists will be announced, and a gallery of their submissions presented. At this time, online voting will be enabled. Online voting will close at midnight on Thursday the 3rd December 2009 EDT. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will be presented on the 4th with $2,500 and the Master Logo Designer Insignia!
INSIGNIA
The Master Logo Designer and Specialist Logo Designer Insignia are highly coveted awards presented to the top designers in their field. The insignia will be displayed next to the user’s name when bidding on graphic or design related jobs, as well as on the user’s profile.
RULES
Purpose
The logo will be used everywhere that the Freelancer.com brand will be shown, and in any new places we might think up, including the website, brochures, software media labels, leaflets and other printed materials, hardware, coffee mugs, bumper stickers, running shoes, yo-yos, Twitter, the Australian 20/20 Cricket Team* (only joking), etc. This is not an exhaustive list.
